The Four Dimensions of Leadership™ · Understand Human Performance
You can't improve what you don't understand.
Why it matters
A leader once said this to me.
I honestly don't remember the context he said it in, but it stuck with me.
I especially think about it when considering leaders' ability to drive performance.
Often leaders don't get the results they want and they wonder why.
When I first started working in corporate, there were leaders who brought out the best in me — and others where that simply was not the case.
I started becoming curious about why.
Over time, I began noticing a pattern.
Key concepts
I needed certain things in order to perform well at work.
And the people around me seemed to need them too.
Over time, I came to believe that human performance is shaped by four fundamental needs.
Why these needs matter
These needs are not random.
They exist for deep psychological and neurological reasons.
We all share them. Though the importance of each one varies from person to person.
This is why leadership matters.
Leadership shapes these needs every day.

Why this matters to me
I want to share my understanding of the needs that drive human performance with other leaders.
